Manager Strategic Communications

Job No: NSYD608
Location: North Sydney

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.

The role

This is your chance to lead the storytelling for one of Sydney's most iconic harbourside communities. As Manager, Strategic Communications, you'll head a talented team of seven and drive the content strategies and campaigns that bring Council's work to life across every channel.

From concept to delivery, you'll plan and manage complex, multi-stakeholder campaigns on the projects and issues that matter to our community, shape our social media strategy and act as Council's first point of contact for media. Working closely with the Executive Manager, Corporate Affairs, you'll enjoy the variety of a role that spans campaign management, digital content, media relations and issues management.

The person

You are a creative and strategic communicator who knows how to cut through, with exceptional writing and storytelling skills and a proven record of planning and delivering campaigns that engage diverse audiences. Confident managing media in a political or high-profile environment, you provide trusted advice to executives and elected officials and stay calm when the pressure is on.

As an experienced people leader, you build capable, collaborative teams and juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball. Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive senior experience in communications, marketing or journalism are essential; local government experience is a bonus, not a must.
