Communications Assistant

Job No: NSYD612
Location: North Sydney

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.

The role

This is a great opportunity for an early-career communications professional to build their skills across a broad and varied role. As Communications Assistant, you'll help bring Council's work to life for our community, creating and publishing content across our website, e-newsletters and social media channels.

You'll write and proofread plain English content, keep our website current and accessible, and support the delivery of communications campaigns from planning through to publishing. You'll also monitor social media, prepare reporting on community sentiment and campaign performance, and get hands-on with design, producing social media graphics and short-form video using Canva and similar tools. Working closely with the Communications & Engagement team, you'll enjoy the variety of a role that spans content, design, reporting and campaign coordination.

The person

You are a clear and confident writer with a good eye for detail, able to turn complex information into plain English content that engages a broad community audience. You're comfortable creating social media content and basic graphic design using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite, and keen to build your skills further.

Well organised and able to juggle competing deadlines, you take direction well and are always looking to improve.
