Access and Inclusion Lead

Job No: NSYD632
Location: North Sydney

We are looking for an experienced and passionate access and inclusion professional who combines strategic thinking with a strong commitment to social justice and community wellbeing.

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.

The role

As the Access & Inclusion Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a more accessible, inclusive and connected North Sydney. Working across the organisation, you will provide strategic leadership and specialist expertise to ensure access, equity and inclusion are embedded in Council's services, facilities, programs, infrastructure and decision-making.

You will lead the implementation and evolution of Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan, working closely with people with disability, older people, community organisations, government agencies and internal stakeholders to deliver meaningful and lasting change. From championing universal design principles and inclusive service delivery, to driving organisational capability and community awareness, you will help create an environment where everyone can participate fully in community life.

This is a highly visible and influential role that extends beyond disability inclusion. You will contribute to Council's age-friendly initiatives, support strategic responses to homelessness, identify funding and partnership opportunities, and provide expert advice to senior leaders, Council and community stakeholders. If you are passionate about social equity and want to make a tangible difference through policy, advocacy, collaboration and leadership, this is an opportunity to create impact at both a local and organisational level.

.

The person

You will bring expertise in disability inclusion, community development, social planning or a related field, together with a sound understanding of accessibility, universal design and contemporary inclusion practices. You are comfortable working across a broad range of issues, building trusted relationships, facilitating meaningful engagement and influencing positive change in complex environments.

You are a collaborative operator who can work effectively with community members, advocacy organisations, government agencies and colleagues at all levels of the organisation. With excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, you can translate community needs into practical solutions, provide strategic advice and deliver projects that achieve measurable outcomes.

Most importantly, you are passionate about creating communities where everyone feels valued, included and able to participate. If you are motivated by the opportunity to influence organisational culture, advocate for equity and inclusion, and help shape a more accessible future for North Sydney, we would love to hear from you.
