Surgical Specialist

Job No: NVC883
Location: Christchurch

Vetspecs is a dedicated, small animal specialist surgical facility and the only specialist surgical referral practice in the South Island. Our team currently has two experienced specialist surgeons on-board, from national and international waters, and a dedicated team of excellent vet nurses and support staff. We are located in central Christchurch and share a building with an after-hours clinic, allowing our patients to receive 24/7 care.

We are currently seeking a recently qualified, board eligible or experienced board-certified surgeon to join our team. We commonly use a team approach and ample opportunity exists for in-house collaboration performing advanced orthopaedic, neurological, oncologic and soft tissue surgery. Our clinic has access to the best in advanced imaging (CT, MRI) and physiotherapy rehabilitation.

We encourage and promote our surgeons’ involvement within the veterinary community, by regularly hosting continuing education events both locally and regionally.

For more information about our clinic, visit us at https://www.vetspecs.co.nz/

The role is flexible and whilst there is a demand for a full-time position over 4 days per week, we can negotiate your hours and days of work.

More about you!

Applicants must be a qualified small animal surgical specialist, with eligibility to be accepted by the ACVS, ECVS, or a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. We will also consider applicants who are board eligible or that have newly completed a residency and are waiting to take boards. You are welcome to email us for more information about this or you can refer directly to our Veterinary Council requirements for specialist eligibility in New Zealand www.vetcouncil.org.nz

Above all else, however, we value a someone who is a team player; committed to our patients and clients; and is keen to be a part of our specialist team. We strongly believe and encourage work/life balance and try to be flexible in accommodating requests.

Why Christchurch?

Christchurch is the second biggest city in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island. It has an international airport and destinations such as Nelson, Blenheim, Queenstown and Wanaka are within driving distance. Christchurch was one of the first settlements in New Zealand and is well known for its English Heritage and history, the city is surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens which are easily accessed for cycling or walking. There is a vibrant “café culture” with numerous options including fine dining, gastro pubs, bistros, street food and award-winning wineries located in the Canterbury region.  If the great outdoors is of interest, Christchurch is very close to ski fields, tramping, beaches, floatable rivers and unique New Zealand bush and fauna.
