About the Role
Reporting to Port Operations Lead and working in a dedicated team, you will be primarily accountable for providing efficient pilot vessel movements within the Port of Bundaberg. The role is also part of a team who maintains Port of Bundaberg assets and marine operations. Incumbents will be required to perform maintenance on the company’s fleet of vessels and vehicles also other marine duties consistent with the delivery of pilotage services. Participate within the team to provide timely reports on vessel operations, project works, marine incidents and other matters relevant to the pilotage operation.
Undertake maintenance programs for company’s vessels and equipment to ensure that vessels and equipment are maintained to the highest standards. The position may involve exercises, training courses and programs, and emergency response. Participate in the training of other staff ensuring compliance with Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the recognition and implementation of a maintenance program to ensure the company’s vessels are maintained to the best possible standards and in accordance with all relevant legislation;
- Perform inspections and maintenance as directed on the company’s vessels and vehicles as needed;
- Maintain currency and working knowledge of all Government legislation in respect to marine operations, which may impact on the role and pilotage transfers generally;
- Schedule and conduct regular training in pilot transfer, search and rescue (E.P.I.R.B tracking), and other emergency response procedures consistent with maintaining maximum capability and readiness among the crew;
- Maintain communications with the Ship Scheduler (VTS) to ensure the continuity of service is maintained as the business demands;
- Assist with the provision of on the job training for new personnel;
- Assist with the purchasing of goods and services as required to maintain the company’s vessels as required by the Port Operations Lead, within the company’s guidelines and maintain financial checks to ensure accountability;
- Perform general maintenance duties within the Port of Bundaberg as directed by the Port Operations Lead, including but not limited to:

- Landcare management – slashing and weed control;
- General hand duties - Cleaning of boat ramps;
- Wharf maintenance including fender replacement and cathodic protection checks.
About You
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Support Craft Master who has great personal drive, adept at working collaboratively. To be successful you will understand and apply master mariner capabilities, displays skills necessary to conduct safe and efficient transfers, Understand and manage risks, ability to maintain a clean, safe and hygienic workplace, ensure safety precautions are taken and standards applied and have the ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
You will be required to have
- Master <24M Near Coastal or Master Class V;
- Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal;
- Marine Radio Operators Certification;
- Mandatory C class and LR drivers licence;
- Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or ability to obtain.
- AC/DC licence or ability to obtain;
- Forklift or ability to obtain;
- Excavator or ability to obtain;
- Tractor or ability to obtain;
- Front End Loader or ability to obtain;
- Vehicle loading crane HIAB;
