About the Role
As a General Hand/Deck Hand, reporting to the Port Operations Lead – Port of Bundaberg, you will be responsible for providing general maintenance and labouring services at the Port of Bundaberg (POB). You will work in a dedicated team to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient port operations.
This position is responsible for providing pilotage transfer, labouring, and general maintenance services at the Port of Bundaberg (POB). As part of our team, you will ensure safe operations while supporting the upkeep of port facilities and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transfer personnel from ship to ship or ship to shore, maintaining the highest levels of safety awareness at all times.
- Conduct maintenance on company vessels and vehicles as required.
- Keep up-to-date and compliant with all relevant government legislation affecting marine operations and pilotage transfers.
- Perform general maintenance tasks within the Port of Bundaberg, including:
- Landcare management (slashing, mowing, and weed control).
- General cleaning and maintenance of boat ramps, signage, and public amenities.
- Waste removal, including from Australian ships.
- Deckhand duties, supporting marine maintenance and operations.
- Wharf maintenance, including fender replacements.
- Follow safe work practices, proactively identifying and addressing safety issues to minimize hazards and prevent injuries.
- Access the necessary resources, facilities, and equipment to carry out duties effectively, in line with company policies and systems.
Formal Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) (mandatory).
- Marine Radio Operators Certification.
- Certificate of Competency as an Open Coxswain (minimum).
- C-Class Driver’s License (Manual Transmission).
- LR Truck (desirable).
- Forklift (desirable).
Ongoing Training & Development:
As part of a continuing training program, you will have the opportunity to gain:
- Master <24M Near Coastal or Master Class V.
- Marine Engine Driver Grade 3.
