Your new role

We are currently seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Housing Support & Outreach Worker to join our regional site based in Bendigo on a part time basis. The head office for the Grampians region is located in Ballarat; you will be required to attend the Ballarat office every 2 weeks for team meetings. We are seeking candidates with excellent communication skills who can build rapport with those who are socially isolated within the community. You will have a non-judgmental attitude, the ability to liaise with people form varying socioeconomic backgrounds, and experience working with both socially isolated people and people with challenging behaviours.

 

Your responsibilities and duties include:

  • Assessing potential clients, taking into account their history, circumstances and preferences
  • Coordinating the referral, nomination and housing support to a number of clients living in transitional housing properties and assisting them to obtain long-term accommodation and support services
  • Encouraging and supporting clients to make decisions regarding their use of services and to manage their own health and welfare needs
  • Enhance the social contact of isolated clients by providing social support or linking and referring them into social and recreational activities

 

 We are looking for candidates with the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Community Services or a related discipline, or extensive experience working in the homelessness or community services sector
  • Outreach skills including the ability to locate and establish rapport with both socially isolated people and people with challenging behaviours.
  • Experience in working effectively and sensitively with a broad range of clients, including those with high support needs and challenging behaviours
  • An understanding of the Housing and Homelessness Service sector My Aged Care, NDIS and other relevant service systems.
  • A current drivers licence, and reliable vehicle
  • Proven commitment to excellence, accountability and innovation in best practice service delivery in the fields of homelessness and housing support.
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to engage with people from varying backgrounds.
  • First Aid Certificate
