About the Opportunity

The Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) is an evidence-based home visiting program with a focus on early intervention and prevention of physical and emotional risk and issues for women pregnant with an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander baby.  The program is voluntary for all eligible women and involves home visits during pregnancy until the child’s second birthday.

The Pilbara Aboriginal Health Alliance (PAHA) and its member ACCHOs have engaged in a formal partnership to bring AFPP to the Pilbara. PAHA will host the Regional Nurse Coordinator position who will work in collaboration with the clinical teams from each member service to support AFPP across the region.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must have:

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse with a minimum 3 years’ relevant clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and empathise with First Nations people living in regional and remote communities;
• Demonstrated competencies in and/or knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved in caring for Aboriginal children and their families;
• Experience in providing support to pregnant Aboriginal women and/or mothers and young children that is culturally appropriate, trauma-informed and attachment-based;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment;
• Demonstrated ability to apply innovative solutions to complex problems in an unpredictable work environment;
• Current (or willingness to obtain) immunisations training/certificate as approrpriate;
• Effective communication skills – written, verbal and interpersonal, and
• Demonstrated high level of professional integrity with regard to client privacy and confidentiality, ethics and creating a culturally safe environment.

The position involves working with a multicultural organisation where the majority of staff, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About the Organisation

With an administrative hub based in Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides holistic primary health care to the individuals and families within the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.

PAMS aims to improve the standard of health of the Martu people and all Aboriginal people living in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia through the provision of community based, comprehensive primary health care services. We exist to promote the health and well-being of individual community members and to relieve sickness and the suffering of the indigenous community as a whole.
