What’s on offer

Urban design is a rewarding but often lesser-known discipline that bridges the gap between planning, architecture, and landscape. This role offers a unique opportunity for a graduate with a strong interest in urban design to gain practical experience and mentorship within a local government setting.

This role will contribute to delivering excellent built form design outcomes for the City, including but not limited to Masterplans, Design Guidelines, City Plan Policies and advocacy for design across the organisation and the community. Working with an experienced team in City Design, the graduate will develop the foundational skills and knowledge needed to launch a successful career in urban design. As a graduate, you will:

• contribute to architectural and urban design research and advice to promote good architecture and urban design outcomes for City projects and initiatives.
• contribute to the development and review of design, landscape and place policies for the management, protection and promotion of good architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and local character areas within the City.
• collaborate with other teams and groups in relation to works concerning the City’s architecture and urban design ensuring the City’s liveability is considered.
• support the City Design team’s advocacy for improved architecture, urban design and landscape architecture outcomes in the region.

Who can apply? 

To be considered for this opportunity you must hold a recognised bachelor's degree or post graduate qualification from a tertiary institution, completed within the last two years or be completing prior to the commencement of the program in February 2026. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia for the duration of the program and be able to work full-time.

The Graduate Urban Design welcomes graduates who have studied Bachelor of Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Master of Urban Design, Planning & Design, Urban Development & Design, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning (with an Urban Design major or strong design component), Architecture (with an Urban Design major); and related fields.
