About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Apprentice Electrician to join Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack site within the Maintenance Department and reports to the Electrical Supervisor or designate.

Job Purpose and Accountability

The purpose of this position is to assist in the installation and maintenance of electrical services by diagnosing and repairing electrical wiring, equipment problems and power generation in accordance with relevant codes. The Apprentice Electrician is accountable for the safe and timely provision of these services under the guidance of a Red Seal Journeyman Electrician in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with all relevant codes and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Assist in the inspections of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards & defects
  • Assist in diagnoses and repairs malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
  • Learn to read & interpret electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings to determine wiring layouts
  • Plans sketches, layout & installation of equipment and fixtures based on job specifications
  • Take direction on daily electrical installation and maintenance repairs to ensure all relevant components will be completed as planned
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating electrical instrumentation, controls & equipment operating procedures to minimize failures and downtime
  • Helps to maintain electrical systems by conducting system tests and completing preventive maintenance requirements
  • Maintains safe work environment by following established codes, standards and operating procedures
  • Learn to test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Must have a strong desire to learn all aspects of Electrician trade
  • Grade 12 or equivalent including: English 12, Mathematics 12 and Physics 12
  • Able to satisfy all entrance requirements to enroll in the trade program

Skills

  • Must have mechanical aptitude and desire to learn Electrical trade
  • Strong desire to gain knowledge of code regulations regarding the installation of power and control systems
  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to adhere to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Must be able to take direction and follow instructions of Journeyman and/or Supervisor

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on / 13 day off rotation / 2 travels days
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
