Following the recent acquisition of Pretivm, Newcrest now own and operate the Brucejack Mine located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia.
The Brucejack underground mine is one of the largest and highest-grade gold mines globally and as of January 1, 2021 has proven and probable mineral reserves of 3.9 million ounces of gold (14.4 million tonnes grading 8.3 grams per tonne gold) with a mine life of 12 years.
The Opportunity:
The Exploration Superintendent position is based out of Newcrest Mining Ltd.’s (Newcrest) Brucejack Mine in northwestern BC and reports to the Exploration Manager for Brucejack. The Exploration Superintendent works with the mine-based Technical Services Team under the oversight of the Brucejack Mine Manager for all logistical, mine safety, and regulatory requirements.
The Exploration Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the planning, executing, and managing all aspects of the Brucejack Exploration programs, including all underground diamond drilling and all surface exploration.
The Exploration Superintendent will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of underground drilling programs and surface exploration work, including drilling, rock and soil sampling, geological mapping, geophysical surveys, and other projects as required.
- Participate in all daily, monthly, and annual reporting requirements, summarizing key exploration activities. Report on target generation and prioritization and provide recommendations for follow-up work.
- Prepare annual exploration budgets. Monitor and assess spending against existing budgets and implement appropriate cost-control measures to remedy any significant variances.
- Maintain, implement, and manage a current one, three, and five-year plan for resource expansion drilling and exploration development.
- Oversee and evaluate the quality of geological and analytical data quality on an ongoing basis. Ensure QAQC programs follow industry best practices and that data quality is of the highest standard.
- Be a leader and role model for safety & health, environmental, and community relations initiatives, supporting policies and procedures, including reviewing, revising, and generating relevant SOPs and JHAs.
- Maintain a professional work environment and encourage technical excellence from the exploration team.
- Understand and ensure compliance with Newcrest safety policies and governmental safety regulations including those of the Ministry of Mines and WorksafeBC.
- Perform other related duties as required

About You:
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology (post-graduate degree a bonus) with 10+ years of relevant exploration and management experience.
- P.Geo professional designation is required.
- Advanced geological interpretation and analytical skills and a solid background in economic geology.
- Experience in proper drill core sampling techniques and QAQC statistical analysis, and commitment to data and database integrity.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Geospark, Acquire, Leapfrog, Vulcan, and other geological software applications as required.
- Innovative with a high drive for results • Exceptional planning, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and the environment:
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and procedures
- Cross cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity on the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds
- Environmental awareness with a commitment to minimize the impacts inside and outside of the mine footprint
- Work at remote location on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
- Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
- The Exploration Superintendent, by nature of their position, is required to work extensively in the field, on steep slopes, in and adjacent to glaciated environments, and potentially in areas frequented by dangerous animals.
