About the Facility

Carmel Aged Care is a 120‑bed, purpose‑built facility in the Perth Hills suburb of Carmel, set among natural bushland about 30 minutes from the Perth CBD. The home features modern wings with private ensuites, landscaped gardens and contemporary common areas that create a calm, welcoming atmosphere.
We are looking for Lifestyle Assistant to join our aged care team at Carmel Aged Care, in a (casual or permanent part‑time) capacity.

About the Role

Working under the direction of the Facility Manager and Lifestyle Coordinator, this position is responsible for the person-centred implementation of leisure, lifestyle and therapy activities with the residents within the Aged Care Facility. The functions of this position are to promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of residents, by partnering with residents to be involved in the meaningful activities of their life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans for and implements meaningful activity that recognizes resident preferences, including personally significant cultural and spiritual practices, to enhance and optimise their wellbeing.  
  • Follows residents’ care plans in the provision of person-centred support during leisure, lifestyle and therapeutic activity. 
  • Supports residents to follow infection control and other relevant safety practices. 
  • Optimizes resident cooperation by actively building trusting relationships with individuals that are based on dignity and respect. 
  • Monitors for and reports deterioration of resident health and/or function. 
  • Works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to organize and facilitate communal celebrations and other special events including fundraising activities.

Skills, Attributes and Experience

Essential:

  • Completion of Certificate IV Lifestyle and Leisure or Allied Health
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of person-centred principles and the ability to engage people in meaningful activity 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of people with dementia in relation to leisure and therapeutic activity 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with people with dementia
  • First Aid Certificate (current) 
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (Car) 
  • Working knowledge of WH&S legislation and practice
