About The Company
Our client is a family-owned Australian manufacturer that has been designing and building machinery and equipment since 1962. Operating from Notting Hill, they manufacture, install and support process and test equipment across the mining, clay and brick, and general industrial sectors.
With engineering and manufacturing located under one roof, their tradespeople work closely with project engineers throughout equipment builds, providing direct access to technical support and the opportunity to see complete projects come together.
About The Opportunity
The primary purpose of this position is to machine components from rough casting and fabrication through to drawing on CNC and manual milling machines, setting and proving your own work. This is a role for a machinist by trade, not an operator who loads jobs to run.
Reporting to the Leading Hand of the machine shop, some of your responsibilities will include:
- Working out your own workholding, tooling, datums, operation sequence and cutting parameters on every job
- Setting and proving one-off and low-batch work across CNC and manual milling machines
- Picking up awkward rough castings and fabrications where there is no convenient reference face
- Dialling in speeds, feeds and depth of cut to protect surface finish, tool life and job efficiency
- Interpreting engineering drawings, machining symbols, surface finishes and geometric tolerancing
- Manipulating G and M code locally at the machine to suit what the job in front of you needs
- Rigging, craning and positioning large components safely, and caring for the machines and tooling you use
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Trade-qualified machining experience
- A proven history of setting and proving work, rather than running programs someone else has proved
- Strong workholding and datum-setting judgement on large, awkward or distortion-prone components
- Fluency with engineering drawings, including numeric and geometric tolerancing and surface finishes
- Sound knowledge of face and shell mills, end mills, drilling, boring and tapping applications
- The measuring discipline to verify your own work with micrometers, verniers, dial gauges and bore gauges
- A positive, team-first outlook and the mechanical aptitude to understand the part and the machine
Fanuc control experience, Fusion or other CAM exposure, and CNC or manual turning capability will each put you ahead, though none of them are essential.
What's in it for You?

Bring your trade, and help build the shop around it.
