About the Position
Our Intensive Foster & Kinship Care Program provides children and young people with complex support needs, who are not able to live with their own family, the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing family environment.
Join our team based in Underwood in this full time Intensive Foster Care Case Worker position and demonstrate your child-centred, case management experience. The Intensive Foster Care Case Worker’s major responsibility is to ensure a high level of therapeutic support is provided to placements of children and young people who are referred by the Department of Communities.
About You
In addition to supporting a case load of Foster Carers, you will offer experience in the following areas:
- Providing direct care of children and young people in placement and assist Foster and Kinship Carers to best meet the challenging needs of the children and young people in their care
- Active engagement in building relationships through interaction and activities
- Applied knowledge and understanding of trauma and pain-based behaviours
- Demonstrated experience in assessing complex needs of children and carer environments; developing and implementing individual care plans
- Enabling young people to have positive relationships with their families
- Proven capability working both autonomously and as part of a team of professionals
- Skilled in the use of computers and at an intermediate level with Microsoft Suite
Relevant personal attributes will include:
- The ability to respond appropriately and professionally in crisis situations
- Exceptional communication skills with a focus on relating to children and youth
- An energetic, compassionate manner with a true and genuine interest in helping children and young people
- Capability to develop relationships based on acceptance, trust and respect
- Problem-solving, decision-making and negotiation skills
- Ability to offer mentoring and leadership to Foster Carers
Qualifications and documentation required:
- Tertiary level qualifications in a relevant field, including Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Sciences
- Previous experience in a Foster Care Program is highly desirable
- A current unrestricted Queensland Drivers Licence
- A current Blue Card
- Eligibility to gain a successful suitability check through the Department of Communities Child Safety Services (LCS-2)
