About the Position
Anglicare SQ’s Intensive Family Support Service, located in Gympie, assists families who are worried about some areas of their family life, particularly the safety and wellbeing of their children. Our family support practitioners help families to identify their own strengths, set goals for themselves, provide practical in-home support and brokerage; and assist with making links to other specialist services. We strive to support families to become stronger, more capable and build a pathway to the life they want.
We are currently looking for a full time Family Support Practitioner with a specialisation in Domestic and Family Violence, to support the service. The role will be responsible for supporting families who have been identified as needing assistance for their children to remain living safely in the family home. Referrals will come from a variety of sources including Government departments, community agencies and family members and requires the successful applicant to be on call after hours.
About You
With a background in Social Services, you will have significant experience working within domestic and family violence services, particularly relating to child protection. You will provide a range of functions, requiring experience and skills including:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the development of children and young people, working within the field of child protection
- Extensive experience dealing with domestic and family violence issues including theory, dynamics and the impact on individuals, families and communities
- An understanding of issues and challenges facing both perpetrators and victims and a willingness to work with both parties to support a positive resolution
- Proven background in responding to crisis situations, conflict resolution and problem-solving
- Confident and capable using a practice framework that is child-centric and culturally sensitive
- Ability to complete complex documentation on time and within required guidelines
- Skilled in the use of computers and at an intermediate level with Microsoft Suite

- Patience, and a mature, impartial attitude
- A focused and dedicated attitude to supporting children and families
- The ability to work cooperatively in a team and develop strong, successful working relationships
- A commitment to quality service, which includes being available after hours - weekends, mornings and evenings - which can be times of high stress for families
Our successful candidate will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or similar
- Current Queensland Drives Licence
- A valid Blue Card (Working with Children)
- Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
