Bush Heritage Australia are seeking a Spatial Application Officer to join our Science and Conservation team.

About the role

Supported by the Conservation Management Process (also known as the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation), BHA is in the process of implementing a centralised, accessible, integrated, ecological geodatabase via ArcGIS Enterprise. This will ensure the development of strong data standards for driving priority actions to measure, understand, visualise, and communicate our impact on Country most effectively.

The Spatial Application Officer requires a well-developed knowledge of GIS, including experience in working with and training others in ESRI products, relational databases, and large spatial datasets. Experience in remote sensing and satellite image technologies is highly regarded. The position also requires excellent communication and organisational skills, plus a high level of computer literacy. It is necessary that the applicant possesses a relevant tertiary qualification, as well as a working understanding of issues affecting conservation and land management.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental or spatial science, or an associated discipline Demonstrated and practical experience in project management.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in use of GIS products provided by ESRI ArcGIS suite
  • Demonstrated experience with development of Field Data collection applications using ArcGIS (Survey123, Field Maps, and Quick Capture) 
  • Good knowledge of spatial data formats
  • Practical understanding of spatial data analytics
  • Experience with Windows OS environments and Microsoft Office 365 products
  • Written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people from a broad range of backgrounds to solicit information and build good working relationships
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, and willing to learn and follow instructions
  • Commitment and passion for nature conservation and the objectives and values of BHA
