Assistant Quality Assurance Manager

We’re on the hunt for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Assistant Quality Assurance Manager to champion food safety, process integrity, and product excellence. Based at our Grantham export-accredited facility in the idyllic Lockyer Valley, you’ll be a key player in our Quality Assurance (QA) team.

The role: Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager your two key areas of focus are:

• Quality Assurance Implementation: Drive the implementation and control of quality assurance policies.
• Food Safety Standards: Ensure adherence to food safety standards both domestically and internationally.

Your Responsibilities:

• Program Compliance: Oversee the implementation and compliance of Quality Assurance programs, including withdrawals and recalls of products (when required) aligning with regulatory requirements.
• Laboratory Direction: Provide overall direction to plant laboratory programs. Review use of process of use for all data logger programs.
• Supervision: Lead and supervise QA and Laboratory staff, ensuring excellence in their respective programs.
• Retail Ready Expertise: Bring experience in retail-ready or value-add food processes to the table.
• Collaboration: Liaise with Production Managers and Department Supervisors regarding packing instructions, product specifications, and customer requirements.
• Documentation Management: Maintain and update manuals, notices, advice, legislation, and relevant audit standards. Assist in the development of training and education materials for staff member and employees. Including conducting pre-shipment and daily reviews of the same.
• Quality System Assessment: Collaborate with the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and QA Manager to assess the effectiveness of quality systems and identify improvement opportunities.
• Issue Resolution: Report unresolved or critical issues to the relevant stakeholders and implement corrective actions.
• Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations using the “5 Whys” methodology.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with the Australian Government Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry, Aus-Meat, and both domestic and international customers.
• Quality System Audits: Coordinate the implementation, review, and audit of quality systems. Participate in the HACCP review and verification activities.

Your Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience: Previous experience in a similar role within the food/meat industry.
• Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire a team.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous in maintaining compliance and documentation.
• Problem-Solving: Proficient in root cause analysis.
• Communication: Effective communication skills for effective collaboration.
• Qualifications – Certificate 3 & 4 Meat Safety or Quality Assurance, Animal Welfare Officer, Auditing Qualifications (Systems Auditing)
