Council provides water services to approximately 18,000 people, servicing the Singleton township and a number of nearby rural areas and industrial customers. In addition, Council has a considerable raw water system servicing mining and commercial customers.

Council provides sewerage treatment services to approximately 14,700 people in the urban footprint of Singleton community comprising of gravity system, numerous pump stations, a significant area of pressure sewer and a treatment plant.

 

ADD VALUE - THE ROLE

Our Water and Sewer Delivery team are a high performing, established crew providing a critical service to the Singleton Community. Working in small teams, they collaborate and cooperate with each other to provide operation, installation, maintenance and repair works for Council’s water and sewer distribution systems. 

A typical day might include:

  • Independently carry out work relating to the operation, maintenance and construction of water and sewer reticulation including: new mains, fittings and service construction along with property connections, repairs and maintenance, installation, testing, replacement and repairs of water meters, associated pipework and sewer service connection point, sewer main and connection inspection, cleaning, repairs and maintenance and installation and maintenance of Pressure Sewer System / scheme and traffic control;
  • Working in pairs or small groups to complete major repair or replacement works;
  • Restoration of customer assets after maintenance repairs, such as concrete paths, fences, gates, paving, landscaping, lawns and plants;
  • Assist with the location, use and interpretation of plans, drawings, procedures and guidelines specific to the water industry.

Your experience in water and sewer, construction and/or plumbing industry will be complemented by a Certificate III Water Operations qualification, or willingness to obtain as supported under Council's Learning and Development Protocol. 

It would be advantageous if you currently held, or can demonstrate a willingness and ability to obtain, through Council provided training (at no cost to you), the following:

  • Class MR or above licence
  • Implement traffic control
  • Confined space entry
  • Safe working at Heights
  • Dogman certification
  • Operate high pressure jetting water system
  • Working near overhead powerlines
  • AQF3 Chemical safety

This position is offered on a permanent, fulltime basis working 76 hours per fortnight on a team-based 9-day fortnight. This position participates in the on-call roster.

Remuneration package for this position is based on Grade 7 of Council's Salary System Protocol which equates to a base salary of $2768.67 - $3008.08 per fortnight consisting of:

  • $2,376.66 to $2,673.42 base salary
  • $36.56 Adverse Working Conditions allowance
  • $265.45 to $298.10 superannuation (calculated at 11%)

In addition to the base salary, a $400 per week rostered on-call allowance when rostered, and regular overtime are available.
