ADD VALUE - THE ROLE

Council provides water services to approximately 18,000 people, servicing the Singleton township and a number of nearby rural areas and industrial customers. In addition, Council has a considerable raw water system servicing mining and commercial customers.

Council provides sewerage treatment services to approximately 14,700 people in the urban footprint of Singleton community comprising of gravity system, numerous pump stations, a significant area of pressure sewer and a treatment plant.

The Water and Sewer Delivery Team provide operation, installation, maintenance and repair works for Council’s water and sewer distribution and treatment systems along with maintenance and installation work at Council owned facilities

This Utilities Electrician is primarily responsible for the inspection, repair, maintenance, construction, operation and testing of Council’s water and sewer electrical systems, including electrical (ELV, LV, HV), electronic, instrumentation, telemetry, PLC and SCADA, the monitoring compliance with the electrical requirements of Council, providing technical support for customer related issues and assisting in the review of engineering design and assessments. Planning and scheduling works is an important part of this role. 

In your role you will contribute to important community outcomes and making a real impact for Singleton. The natural diversity of your role means that every day will be different. Your role will include doing compliance on site, meeting with industry bodies, inspecting sites and reviewing policies. You will assist in developing, implementing and approving electrical, PLC and instrumentation designs have input on electrical PLC/SCADA, instrumentation and telemetry works in conjunction with the Utilities Engineer – Electrical and PLC Instrumentation. At other times you will carry out inspections, planned and corrective maintenance, condition assessment, fault finding/diagnosis and rectification of electrical equipment.   

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology with current licence and thorough understanding of the Wiring Rules (AS3000) and the reference standards;
  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical systems and understanding of electrical work as it relates to water utility operations;
  • Working knowledge of PLC function and programs and the ability to fault find using PLC logic;
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams and construction drawings;
  • Proof of immunity against Hepatitis A and B and tetanus (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement). 

It would be advantageous but not essential to hold:

  • Qualified Supervisor Certificate – Electrician, or equivalent;
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise contractors achieve work targets and objectives safely and efficiently;
  • Certificate III (or above) in Water Operations (or willing to obtain supported by Council's Education Assistance Policy);

This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis working 38 hours per week. This role participates in an on-call roster.

Remuneration for this position is based on Grade 11 of the salary system which equates to a base salary between $80,838 - $90,931 per annum plus superannuation and award allowances in accordance with the Local Government (State) Electrical Award. This position attracts the benefit of commuter use of a fit-for-purpose vehicle.
