Disability Support Worker
Job No:
SCAC124
Location:
Redcliffe
A fit and active 30-year-old man in Redcliffe living with Autism and an intellectual impairment is looking for a new support worker. He loves getting out of the house and enjoys bush walking, swimming, parks, train/boat rides, theme parks, barbeques, the beach, live music and eating out. He is looking for someone that supports his decision making, treats him as a friend and equal and will help him work towards greater independence over time. With many OCD type behaviours he can be quite headstrong at times and certain situations will require understanding, patience, tact and negotiation. As food and eating out is a big motivation, he requires some guidance with healthy eating choices and regular exercise to stay in shape. With little awareness of danger (such as traffic) and a fear of dogs (which may cause him to run) he must be supervised closely at all times to ensure his safety. The ideal support worker will have experience managing behaviour and be attentive, calm, creative, and firm when needed. A good sense of humour will also go a long way!
