About Somerville Community Services
Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Work Health and Safety (WHS) professional to coordinate and support the delivery of safe, person-centred services across Somerville. Reporting to the Manager, Quality and Practice, the WHS Coordinator will play a key role in implementing WHS systems, leading risk management activities, and promoting practical approaches to safety that support compliance and reflect the complexities of disability service environments.
This is a hands-on role with organisation-wide impact, requiring the ability to translate WHS legislation and standards into real-world solutions that support frontline teams and uphold quality outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
As WHS Coordinator, you’ll work closely with operational leaders to drive WHS initiatives, conduct audits and investigations, manage safety systems, and provide expert advice across multiple service locations. You’ll also support emergency planning, incident response, and safety training, ensuring staff are engaged, informed, and equipped to work safely in diverse environments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating WHS systems, procedures, and compliance activities
- Providing practical WHS advice and support to leaders and staff
- Supporting risk assessments, incident investigations, and audits
- Leading emergency preparedness planning, including PEEPs and BCPs
- Delivering safety communications, training, and awareness initiatives
- Monitoring WHS data and reporting on trends and areas for improvement
- Collaborating with operational teams to ensure WHS strategies are practical and person-centred
- Contributing to organisational quality and continuous improvement projects
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong understanding of WHS principles and experience applying them in complex, service-based environments. You’ll be confident navigating WHS legislation and able to implement practical, risk-based solutions that support compliance, service delivery, and safe, inclusive work practices.
You’ll also need to demonstrate:
- Experience coordinating WHS in a multi-site or regulated care environment
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management
- Experience with audits, inspections, and incident investigations
- Ability to implement and improve WHS policies, systems, and training
- Strong communication and engagement skills across all levels of staff
- High-level organisation, problem-solving, and data reporting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and WHS/incident management systems
- A values-based, person-centred approach to safety and service delivery
You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, First Aid and CPR certificate, COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations, evidence of Australian work rights, and an NT Drivers Licence.
Please refer to the full position description for a complete list of essential and desirable criteria.
