About Somerville Community Services

Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 50 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.

About the role

As a Disability Support Worker, you’ll play a vital role in empowering NDIS participants to live with independence, choice, and dignity. Every day is different, from providing personal care and helping with daily tasks, to supporting people to get involved in their community and pursue what matters most to them. You’ll be there to offer encouragement, build meaningful connections, and ensure supports are delivered safely, respectfully, and in line with individual goals.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, your focus will be on providing person-centred active support that makes a real difference in daily life. This includes:

  • Promoting independence, confidence, and skill-building through daily activities and community engagement
  • Following individual support and health plans, including safe medication administration
  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, and daily living tasks
  • Maintaining accurate records and safeguarding participant wellbeing through confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Responding to behaviours of concern in line with support plans and positive behaviour strategies
  • Contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and values-driven team culture

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Experience delivering person-centred support, including personal care, daily living, and community participation
  • Ability to follow support plans and health care plans, and safely implement behaviour strategies
  • Commitment to participant safety, dignity, and ethical practice in line with the NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Strong documentation and system skills, ensuring accurate and timely records
  • Knowledge of infection control, safe manual handling, and WHS responsibilities

Desirable

  • Certificate III (or higher) in Individual Support, Disability, or a related field
  • Experience in Supported Independent Living (SIL) or similar environments
  • Experience supporting participants with behaviours of concern or psychosocial disability
  • Experience with complex health needs, including enteral feeding, dysphagia support, complex bowel/wound care, epilepsy, catheter care, and diabetes monitoring

Mandatory compliance requirements

Before starting the application process, please ensure you have the following documentation ready.  These documents are a mandatory requirement to progress to interview and need to be valid.

  • NT Driver’s Licence
  • National Criminal History Check
  • NT Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations
  • Full Australian working rights
