The opportunity

 

We are seeking a Head of Industry Development to oversee, lead, and manage the design, development, and implementation of industry development programs and Industry growth incentives. This is an integral role that will directly contribute to strengthening the capability, sustainability, and global competitiveness of the Western Australian screen industry. The successful candidate will play a key part in shaping strategic partnerships, driving innovation, and creating new opportunities for practitioners and projects across all screen sectors.

 

This is a full-time, two-year fixed contract, based in our Perth CBD office.

 

The role will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the management of Screenwest’s industry development programs.
  • Leading the design, development and implementation of Screenwest’s Industry growth incentives, film friendly, workforce capacity and Documentary and Games funding programs to ensure relevance and alignment to Screenwest’s strategic priorities.
  • Maximising investment opportunities for Screenwest and with the support of the funding team, assessing applications for funding.
  • Providing specialist advice to stakeholders in the areas of industry development, current production practice and contemporary cultural and ethical issues influencing screen production.
  • Working collaboratively with the Head of Scripted: Content and Talent to provide strategic advice to the CEO and Board, ensuring the coordination of Screenwest funding programs and projects, the setting of priorities and the allocation of resources to achieve desired strategic outcomes.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to attract funding and recommend opportunities for ventures with industry partners.
  • Undertaking policy development and research work.
  • Developing, negotiating, and maintaining effective working relationships with government departments, key stakeholders and other state and federal agencies.
  • Assisting the CEO in the resolution of complex issues.
  • Leading, supervising, and providing guidance to the funding team and oversee the administrative functioning of the team to ensure efficient operations.

The right person will be able to demonstrate / have experience with:

  • Strong understanding of the screen industry’s ecosystem, including funding bodies, broadcasters, distributors, and emerging digital platforms.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, guide, and support staff and collaborators in a dynamic and creative environment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to advocate effectively, influence decision-making, and represent the organisation at high-level industry forums.
  • Experience in policy development and implementation, with an understanding of government processes and public funding frameworks.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities for industry development and growth, and to design and deliver programs that support talent pathways, workforce capacity, and regional engagement.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges and driving continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an understanding of its importance in fostering a vibrant and representative screen industry.

Other requirements: 

  • A current (within three months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required. 
  • Out of hours work may be required at times 
  • Ability to travel for the role
  • Appointment subject to:
    • 100-point identification check; and
    • Criminal records screening clearance.
