Team Leader - Disability Support

A gentleman living independently with support in Thornlands has an opening for a creative and professional person to work alongside him, in partnership with his family/guardians, to grow and lead his support team as he moves forwards exploring options to expand his life.

The gentleman is seeking someone who:

  • is interested in a stable ongoing position, that may develop with time
  • strongly values relationships and working in true collaboration with colleagues, people with disability and their families
  • acts with integrity, proving themselves over time to be reliable, honest and trustworthy
  • can oversee a team and lead by example, inspiring cohesion, creativity, flexibility, effectiveness and appreciation of diversity

  • understands the importance of active listening, taking notice of nuance and the need for measured and considered response
  • understands the family of a person with a disability possesses a natural authority, having great knowledge and understanding of their loved one as well as being invested in their future
  • will engage directly with the gentleman and his family in “right relationship”
  • will respect the importance to the gentleman as well as his family of reliability and punctuality 

 

Fortnightly shifts / hours:

•          1 day shift providing direct support

•          1 overnight shift providing direct support

•          3 non-support shifts (Key Worker duties)

•          Availability / Flexibility to fill in shifts when other workers are on leave

The Key Worker role:

  • establish meaningful, collaborative and rich relationships with the person being supported and supporters
  • nurture existing relationships with a spirit of collaboration and shared vision
  • collaborate to build networks in the local neighbourhood towards life enrichment and safeguarding
  • be open, timely and creative in addressing issues
  • organise and maintain regular supervision appointments with Support Workers
  • oversee a unified approach to PBSP implementation
  • provide team members with debriefing, mentoring and training when appropriate
  • organisation and distribution of a regular Calendar of Supports (roster) working within budget to fill gaps
  • oversee petty cash management, recruitment and medication procedure
  • monitor messages and group chats around the person’s support
  • facilitate, resource and lead quarterly team meetings
  • creatively drive development while ensuring a safe space for growth
  • ensure service provision is compliant with relevant legislation and Staffing Options’ Code of Conduct
  • ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times for people receiving support and stakeholders
  • maintain quality of service by adhering to core principles of a person-centred community-based service
  • be available for regular direct support shifts and some cover shifts

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to work alongside and advocate for people with a disability, and the capacity to encourage a shared vision with the person being supported
  • Demonstrated understanding of what it means to work in right relationship with people with disability, their families and committed others
  • Demonstrated community building approaches in supporting people at risk of marginalisation to pursue a meaningful inclusive life
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as to inspire, motivate, coach and supervise a team of support workers
  • Ability to work collaboratively, developmentally and passionately towards the building of a good life

 

Essential Requirements:

•    Right to Work in Australia

•    Open Driver’s License

•    Current First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain)

•    NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or willing to obtain)

•    NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate (or willing to obtain)

•    Flexibility to pick up additional hours when needed
