We are seeking a Mentor / Support Worker to work with a gentleman in his mid-40s who values connection and community engagement. He enjoys walking the family dog, swimming, BBQs, doing jobs with his ute, recycling, shopping and the great outdoors. We are looking for a mentor with similar interests who has a demonstrated ability to work alongside and advocate for people with a disability, and the capacity to encourage a shared vision with the person being supported.

This role requires a strong commitment to creating respectful and meaningful relationships, working collaboratively to achieve personal goals, and providing tailored support. The Mentor / Support Worker will engage with the gentleman through genuine communication, humour, and a focus on promoting independence and competence. Responsibilities include following the gentleman’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan, managing daily routines, and adapting to his pace and needs.

Key Duties:

  • Fostering a respectful relationship based on respect, dignity, and consent
  • Creating natural opportunities for purpose and meaning within the community
  • Collaborating within specific areas of interest
  • Working together to achieve personal goals
  • Actively providing support around communication and nurturing relationships
  • Following directions from the family, Team Leader and Lead Mentor as to how to best provide support
  • Promoting competence by helping the gentleman to look good, feel good and experience success
  • Responding in a timely and professional manner at all times with the team, the gentleman, and his supporters
  • Engaging in reflective practice when working with the gentleman
  • Relieving direct support shifts when required

Shifts:

  • Day Shifts – 9:30am – 5pm (1 per week)
  • Evenings / Overnights – 6:30pm – 9:30am the following day ( 1 – 2 shifts per week)
  • Flexibility to pick up extra hours when required
  • Potential to pick up further work supporting other individuals in the area

I require time to get to know new workers prior to sleepovers commencing. This position would be best suited to someone looking to start regular shifts in March. Prior to this, you would need to be available and flexible for a variety of drop in visits (minimum pay 2 hours) for a few weeks. The initial weeks would also include induction training to build an understanding of the support needs.

Essential requirements:

  • +3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Broad experience in communities/disabilities sector
  • A person - centred approach
  • Knowledge of anxiety and the impact of trauma
  • Physically fit due to nature of the role & supports
  • Current Open Queensland Driver’s License and own vehicle
  • Current First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willing to obtain) 

Highly regarded:

  • Experience with visual scheduling and other communication needs highly desirable
  • SRV (Social Role Valorisation) Training
  • Knowledge of the Redlands community and its opportunities highly desirable

Pay Rates:

  • Monday to Friday 6am to 8pm shift - $38.00 per hour
  • Monday to Friday 8pm - 6am - shift $42.56 per hour
  • Saturdays - $53.20 per hour
  • Sunday - $68.40 per hour
  • Public Holidays - $83.60 per hour
  • Sleepover allowance $190.00 per shift
