What’s on offer

As a Graduate Data Scientist, you will work in the Performance and Analytics business unit and assist in solving business problems through innovative technical solutions and data insights. You’ll work alongside a dynamic and ambitious team committed to enhancing the Gold Coast way of life through data-driven innovation across infrastructure, transportation, community services, urban planning and economic development. A key focus will be the delivery of high-value data insights from large structured and unstructured datasets, using modern tools and coding practices to drive automation and service improvements. You will also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver meaningful, actionable insights.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be proficient in programming languages such as R and Python.
  • Be able to tailor communication style and content to suit different audiences, from technical peers to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Possess basic SQL skills and an understanding of relational databases and database design.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of statistical methods to analyse data and draw actionable insights.
  • Have exposure to machine learning, deep learning and advanced modelling techniques and algorithms.
  • Have knowledge across data science domains, such as classification, forecasting, unsupervised learning, Bayesian modelling, natural language processing, image processing, reinforcement learning and generative AI.
  • Have an interest in AI concepts and technologies (e.g. LLMs, RAG, MCP) and applying them to practical business challenges.
  • Have experience with data visualisation tools, such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Have familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git, Gitlab, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Have experience or coursework related to cloud data warehouse solutions (e.g. Snowflake, BigQuery, Microsoft Fabric) and cloud-based solutions (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).

Who can apply? 

To be considered for this opportunity you must hold a recognised bachelor's degree or post graduate qualification from a tertiary institution, completed within the last two years or be completing prior to the commencement of the program in February 2026. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia for the duration of the program and be able to work full-time.
