Project Manager (Infrastructure Project Planning)

Sutherland Shire Council is looking for two experienced and inspired Project Managers to join the Project Planning team in Council’s Infrastructure Planning & Design unit. With multiple buildings, parks, playgrounds and sports amenities across our portfolio, these roles will play a key part in delivering our Capital and Operational Works programs while working in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.  

The Asset Strategy and Delivery Division undertakes long-term asset management across the portfolio and delivers a pipeline of infrastructure through staged planning, design, and construction over a 4-year program. Sitting within the Infrastructure Planning & Design unit, these positions will be responsible for initiatives such as masterplanning Councils high-priority parks and reserves, plans of management, recreational service analysis and major renewals and expansions to Councils infrastructure portfolio.

Things We’ll Trust You With:

  • Undertaking the delivery of complex projects, from feasibility studies, concepts and masterplans to policy reviews.
  • Leading project initiation for the capital works program, developing project plans for Council’s capital works program identifying key project objectives and delivery strategy.
  • Bringing your can-do attitude and commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary planning and design team.
  • Providing technical guidance & advice to team members, senior management and the organisation in respect to design and strategic considerations in projects.
  • Working autonomously, driving the planning project program and setting projects up for success.
  • Managing cost reviews and undertake value management as required.

Things You’ll Do:

  • Lead the delivery of Capital and Operational Works projects during the planning phase.
  • Achieve the project outcomes for clients and stakeholders by meeting time, cost and quality expectations.
  • Create project briefs in close coordination with clients and stakeholders.
  • Assess and provide expert advice on planning pathways and obtain necessary approvals, including any heritage and cultural considerations.
  • Undertake feasibility assessments and options studies, including advice on delivery programs and staging of works.
  • Manage the preparation of masterplans, plans of management, strategies and recreational service analysis.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders, clients and consultants across a range of disciplines to develop strategies and resolve problems.
  • Engage and manage internal and external consultants required in the project planning phase.
  • Work closely with the asset management and construction teams to deliver valued community assets.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in architecture, landscape architecture, planning, project management, engineering, or related field
  • Extensive experience in managing projects in a similar capacity
  • A Class C Driver's Licence

Experience in infrastructure planning and construction will be highly regarded.

  • Package: $100,816 - $112,360 gross p.a. plus 11% superannuation
  • Hours of work: Permanent Full-time and Temporary Full-time positions available, working 35 hours with the option of a 19-day month.
