Role Overview
At Sutherland Shire Council, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents and preserving the natural beauty of the Sutherland Shire region.
The Development Services team key focus is facilitating land use and development to deliver balanced community, environmental and economic outcomes.
As Principal Planner, you will play a pivotal role in assessing and managing development proposals with a strong focus on their impact on the natural, built and social environments.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and reporting on various types of development applications
- Coordinating Council reports to planning panels
- Contributing to policy and plan development for effective land use controls
- Participating in project teams to address issues associated with planning functions
- Mentoring students
Your Profile
As the ideal candidate, you will be a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving in addition to:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Planning (Town Planning / Urban & Regional Planning / Architecture)
- Extensive experience in assessing complex development applications
- Strong knowledge of the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979
- Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills

- Package: From $109,711 - $127,486 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Temporary Full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week, with 19 day month option. Position expected to be available until March 2026.
