About The Role
The Insurance Officer plays a crucial role in working closely with the Insurance Specialist, ensuring claims are handled fairly and transparently. This position supports the implementation of the Insurance Management Framework while providing valuable advice on insurance-related matters within the local government context.
The Insurance Officer also focuses on promoting a robust insurance risk culture through continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement, ultimately enhancing the community's confidence in the Council's practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administer under-deductible insurance claims on a day-to-day basis.
- Collaborate with external insurance managers to improve claims management processes.
- Conduct research on emerging risks to inform strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with Council’s Code of Conduct, policies, and relevant laws.
- Promote customer-centric behaviour and seek continuous improvement in service delivery.
- Maintain good governance and enhance community trust through effective insurance practices.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of relevant qualifications and experience in claims management, along with a strong understanding of insurance policies and legislation. We seek a proactive individual who can operate effectively in a dynamic environment and contribute positively to our team culture.
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- A current Driver's Licence.
- Experience in managing claims for a large insurance portfolio.
- Demonstrated ability to provide customer-focused support in claims handling.
- Knowledge of the Civil Liability Act 2002 and Australian Road Rules.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to foster effective relationships both internally and externally.

- Package: $80,196 - $89,815 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Permanent Full-Time 35 hours per week with option of 19-day month. Applicants seeking Part Time hours may also be considered.
