Position Overview

The Coordinator – Nursery & Operations is a key leadership role responsible for the effective management and coordination of our bushland assets, Native Gardens and Community Nursery. This position requires a proactive approach to leading internal teams, contractors and volunteers in the execution of daily operations, activities and programs.

In this role, you will focus on continuous improvement and innovation while fostering a positive and engaged team environment. You will set clear goals and performance expectations, providing regular feedback and mentoring to ensure adherence to safety culture and Council policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee a specialist team to ensure alignment with Council’s strategic goals.
  • Encourage and implement continual improvement practises that enhance service delivery.
  • Demonstrate customer-centric behaviours, ensuring positive experiences for our community.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety laws, promoting a physically and psychologically safe environment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including community groups and contractors.
  • Promote inclusivity and diversity, respecting all individuals and their experiences.
  • Establish performance measures for individuals and teams to manage accountability effectively.
  • Support the professional growth and development of team members through available programs.
  • Demonstrate Council values in all interactions with colleagues, partners and the community.
  • Manage Council resources responsibly, emphasising sustainability and safety.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of leadership, operational management and horticultural knowledge, with a proven ability to inspire and develop teams. You will be committed to safety and continuous improvement, with a demonstrated history of working effectively in high-risk environments.

  • Diploma in Horticulture or related field.
  • WHS Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) and Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience leading and supervising teams, contractors, and volunteers in bush regeneration and plant propagation.
  • Proficiency in managing safety across technical services and activities.
  • Experience in developing work schedules, programs, and safe working procedures adhering to relevant codes and standards.
  • Ability to prepare and manage technical specifications, tenders, and contracts.
  • Experience in securing and managing external grant funding.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in overseeing work programs and project budgets.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information simply.

  • Package: From $104, 435 - $122,876 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation. (Salary will be determined based on the skills and experience of successful candidate).
  • Hours of work: Permanent Full Time 38 hours per week with a 9 day fortnight
