About The Role
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the coordination and management of daily operations related to tree assessment activities for Council owned trees. This position entails leading internal teams, contractors and volunteers in the delivery of effective tree inspection programs while focusing on continuous improvement and innovation.
In this position, you will set clear goals, provide regular feedback and mentoring to your team, and ensure that all safety practises align with Council’s values, policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee a specialist team, ensuring alignment with Council’s goals.
- Encourage continual improvement to enhance service delivery for the community.
- Demonstrate customer-centric behaviours, contributing to positive customer experiences.
- Ensure workplace health and safety protocols are followed, promoting a safe environment for all.
- Foster relationships with community groups, contractors and government agencies.
- Support diversity and inclusion within the team and community.
- Establish performance measures to ensure accountability and manage risks.
- Guide professional development for team members through available programs.
- Manage resources effectively with a focus on sustainability and safety.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Arboriculture and demonstrated experience in a leadership role. You should be adept at managing teams and overseeing safety protocols in high-risk environments.
- Diploma in Arboriculture (AQF Level 5 - Arborist) is required.
- TRAQ Risk Assessment Qualification and WHS Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) are essential.
- Class C Drivers Licence, Working with Children Check, and National Criminal Check are mandatory.
- Proven experience in leading teams in tree inspections, safety management, and technical service delivery.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex matters in simple terms.
- Strong coaching ability and experience in setting team goals and monitoring performance.
Additionally, desirable qualifications include tertiary education in Horticulture, Leadership, Management, or Project Management, as well as Traffic Control and Chemical Handling Certificates. Previous experience in the Local Government sector will be advantageous.

- Package: $104,345 - $122,876 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation and an award vehicle allowance $10,780 gross p.a (Salary will be determined based on the skills and experience of the successful applicant)
- Hours of work: Permanent Full-Time 38 hours per week with a 9 day fortnight.
