Your Role in Our Vision

As a Tree Management Officer, you will play a vital role in assessing and managing trees and bushland within the Shire. Your expertise will ensure that we maintain a balanced canopy while effectively managing associated risks. You will be the point of contact for tree-related inquiries, providing accurate and timely advice to contractors, the community, and internal partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough inspections of trees related to complaints, requests, or assessments.
  • Evaluating tree applications in accordance with the Sutherland Shire Development Control Plan and relevant industry standards.
  • Representing the Council in legal matters related to trees in various courts.
  • Educating residents and staff on sustainable canopy management practises.

Who You Are

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual who is nearing completion of a Degree in Landscape Architecture or holds a Certificate IV in Horticulture (Arboriculture) or an equivalent qualification. You should have a Class C Driver's Licence and a NSW OH&S General Induction White Card.

  • Demonstrated experience in tree assessment and management.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in using PC systems, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong communication and people skills to foster collaboration and constructive feedback.

  • Package: $93,854 - $99,489 (fte) gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
  • Hours of work: Temporary Full-Time 35 hours per week with option of 19-day month with flex-time arrangement. Part time hours may be considered. This temporary opportunity is expected to be available from 25th August 2025 for 6 months.
