The Opportunity

As a Waterways Engineer within our Strategic Asset Management team, you’ll play a key role in protecting and enhancing Sutherland Shire’s unique natural assets – from creeks and stormwater systems to floodplains and coastal catchments.
Your leadership will inspire cross-divisional teams as you navigate the complexities of stormwater and floodplain management in a local government environment. Your expertise will help ensure that our natural waterways and catchments continue to enhance the liveability of the Shire for generations to come.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a results-driven professional with a strong background in stormwater or floodplain management. Your ability to work well autonomously, navigate complex project environments and deliver exceptional outcomes will set you apart.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) or related degree, and a Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Experience in stormwater or floodplain management, with strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, hydrologic and GIS software (e.g., TUFLOW, DRAINS, HEC-RAS, MUSIC, ArcMap).
- Experience in local government or water resource management and familiarity with asset management principles.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of strategic documents including strategies, policies, feasibility studies, business cases, etc.
- Highly developed analytical, project management and organisational skills with proven ability to assess risks and develop timely, innovative solutions to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to engage effectively with stakeholders and our community.

- Package: $99,569 - $111,514 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Full time opportunity working 35 hours per week, you will have the option of a 19 day month through Council's flex system.
