Sutherland Shire Council, in partnership with Swimming NSW and the NSW Institute of Sport, has launched the Southern Performance Centre, based at Sutherland Leisure Centre. This elite hub supports and develops high-potential athletes across NSW, creating strong performance pathways and elevating swimming at both local and state levels.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Squad Coach to join our coaching team and contribute to our ongoing success.

About the Role – Squad Coach
As Squad Coach, you'll lead the development of swimmers in a structured and supportive squad environment. You’ll deliver innovative, engaging training programs tailored to individual needs while fostering an inclusive team culture that builds confidence, resilience, and performance.
Key responsibilities:
- Coach and mentor swimmers across various age and ability levels within the squad structure.

Plan and deliver sessions that focus on technical development, race skills, and long-term athlete progression.

Collaborate with the coaching team to align strategies across squads and ensure athlete pathways are clear and supported.

Support athlete wellbeing, goal-setting, and competition preparation.

Build strong positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
About You
You’re an energetic, team-focused coach with a deep understanding of competitive swimming. You’re passionate about athlete development and eager to contribute to a high-performance culture.
You'll bring:

Proven experience coaching in a competitive swim environment.

Strong communication and leadership skills.
-
A collaborative coaching style and an ability to connect with swimmers of all ages.

Technical knowledge of strokes, starts, turns, and competition preparation.

A commitment to professional development and continual improvement.

Valid NSW Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)

CPR and First Aid certifications
-
Teacher of Competitive Swimming or Towards Competitive Strokes certification
-
Swim Coaches & Teachers Australia (SCTA) Development Accreditation (formerly Bronze), or willingness to obtain within 6 months

- Interview date: Interviews will be facilitated within two weeks of closing.
- Package: $64,804 - $72,579 (full time equivalent) gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Temporary Full-Time, 38 hours per week with option of 19-day month with flexi time arrangement. Part time opportunities may also be considered. Applicants must be willing to work hours across a 7 day a week spread (Monday-Sunday). This temporary opportunity is expected to be available for 24 months.
