Are you an experienced animal care professional ready to take the next step into a leadership role? We’re looking for a dedicated Senior Animal Shelter Officer to provide exceptional operational and supervisory support to the Team Leader in managing the day-to-day operations of our busy Animal Shelter.
As the Senior Animal Shelter Officer, you’ll play a key role in leading and mentoring the shelter team, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, customer service, and workplace safety. You’ll be confident making decisions, solving problems, and providing direction in the Team Leader’s absence, helping the team deliver consistent, professional, and compassionate care.
This hands-on role involves overseeing daily shelter activities, coordinating volunteers and community programs, maintaining facilities and equipment, and liaising with veterinarians, animal welfare organisations, and members of the public. You’ll also contribute to improving policies, procedures, and processes that support responsible pet ownership and enhance shelter operations.
To succeed in this role, you’ll have:
- Proven experience in animal care, welfare, or shelter operations.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to support and motivate a team.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills.
- A sound understanding of animal welfare legislation and safe work practices.
- A passion for making a positive impact in your community.

- Package: $82,602 - $87,556 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Full Time. 38 hours per week, 7 day spread (including public holidays). Work hours span 5.00am - 10:00pm to support the operational needs of the Animal Shelter. You will have the option of a 19 day month through Council’s flex system.
