Welcome to Sutherland Shire Council

At Sutherland Shire Council, we’re proud of the beautiful parks, town centres, beaches, and open spaces that make our area such a great place to live. Our Cleansing and Waste teams play a huge role in keeping these places looking their best — and we’d love for you to join us.

When you join our team, you’re joining a supportive group of people who work together, encourage each other, and take pride in contributing to the community.

Your Role as a Public Place Cleaner

As a Public Place Cleaner, you’ll help keep our community clean, tidy, and welcoming. You’ll work across the Shire, taking care of public spaces like streets, parks, and busy public areas — a role where you can see the results of your work every day. No previous cleaning experience is required — we’re looking for people who are reliable, willing to learn, and take pride in doing a good job. If you enjoy being active, working outdoors, and contributing to your local community, this could be a great way to get started.

Your work will include:

  • Collecting litter and servicing public bins
  • Spot cleaning to keep high‑use areas looking great
  • Using cleaning tools and equipment safely and confidently

You’ll start bright and early at 4:00am, giving you the chance to finish your day in the early afternoon and enjoy the rest of your day.

This role operates across a 7‑day roster (Monday to Sunday), depending on operational needs.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, takes pride in what they do, and wants to help keep our community looking its best.

You’ll thrive in this role if you’re:

  • An early riser who’s comfortable with morning starts
  • A team player with a positive, friendly attitude
  • Physically fit and happy to work outdoors
  • Comfortable using basic digital tools for logging tasks or communicating with your team
  • Enjoy cleaning and seeing results of your work make a difference
