About The Role
The Development Compliance Officer plays a crucial role in monitoring compliance with development consents and investigating breaches of legislation under the Local Government Authority. This position is tasked with managing customer inquiries, providing advice, and addressing urgent compliance matters to ensure effective development and environmental standards are upheld across the Sutherland Shire.
Core responsibilities include receiving and investigating complaints, monitoring development activities, enforcing relevant legislation, issuing notices and orders, conducting inspections, and supporting legal proceedings. The officer will also contribute to policy improvements and maintain communication with stakeholders through reporting and education initiatives.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of relevant qualifications and practical experience in development control, building surveying, or town planning. Experience in regulatory compliance functions and a strong understanding of pertinent legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, is necessary.
- Qualifications in a related discipline or substantial experience in Development Control, Building Surveying, Town Planning, or Statutory Investigation/Enforcement.
- Proven track record in compliance and regulatory functions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
Additionally, candidates should demonstrate effective organisational skills, the ability to make informed decisions based on sound professional judgement, and familiarity with legal processes related to compliance functions.

- Package: From $99,569 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Permanent Full Time. You will have the option of a 19 day month through Council’s flex system.
