Early Education Centre Cook (Part Time)

Sutherland Shire Council is looking for a dedicated Cook to join our Early Education Centre team. This is more than a kitchen role - it’s a chance to positively influence the health, development and daily experiences of children aged 0–5 through fresh, nourishing food.

About the Role

As our Early Education Centre Cook, you’ll plan and prepare balanced, high-quality meals that support the dietary, cultural and developmental needs of young children. You’ll play an important role in fostering healthy eating habits, while ensuring all meals align with Australian Dietary Guidelines and food safety standards. We are looking for someone to join our team in a part-time role at our 59-place centre, working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 6 hours each day.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0–5
  • Develop seasonal menus that reflect dietary guidelines and cultural diversity
  • Safely cater to individual dietary needs, including allergies and restrictions
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen operations
  • Work closely with educators and families to create positive, inclusive mealtime experiences

About You

You’re organised, reliable and enjoy being part of a collaborative team. You bring creativity to meal preparation and have a genuine interest in supporting the health and wellbeing of young children. You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and take pride in delivering quality meals every day.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Working With Children Check
  • Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable

  • Experience in a childcare or hospitality setting
  • Basic nutrition training or knowledge
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Understanding of allergy-aware and anaphylaxis-safe food practices

  • Hours of work: Part-time role, 18 hours per week. Flexibility to pick up additional shifts may be available, depending on operational needs. 
  • Hourly Rate: $29.62 gross per hour plus 12% superannuation.
  • Package: $58,545 gross p.a. (salary paid pro-rate for part time) plus 12% superannuation. The Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Worker Retention Allowance will be applied to these roles in addition with Federal Government guidelines.
