Curatorial Assistant

Hazelhurst Arts Centre, a leading visual arts destination in southern Sydney, is seeking a passionate and organised Curatorial Assistant to support the delivery of our dynamic exhibition and public programs.

Reporting to the Curator, Exhibitions and Programs, you will provide curatorial, administrative, research and exhibition support across a diverse program of exhibitions, artist commissions, publications, touring projects and residency initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of exhibitions and related projects.
  • Undertake research and support the preparation of publications, reports, grants and exhibition materials.
  • Coordinate exhibition administration, including contracts, agreements and record keeping.
  • Assist with exhibition installation and de-installation.
  • Conduct artwork condition reporting and ensure best-practice art handling, storage and transport.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality exhibitions and public programs.

About You

You will bring:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Fine Arts, Visual Arts and/or an extensive knowledge of Australian Art.
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Experience working in a gallery, museum or arts organisation.
  • Knowledge of Australian contemporary art and art history.
  • Understanding of museum-standard art handling and condition reporting practices.
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop).

Desirable

  • Experience designing publications, exhibition materials or marketing collateral.
  • Experience with web publishing.

  • Package: $$75,838 - $80,389 gross p.a. (full time equivalent) plus 12% superannuation.
  • Hours of work: Working 21 hours per week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
