About T-Ports

T-Ports operates two ports and the transshipment vessel “Lucky Eyre” at Lucky Bay (Eyre Peninsula) and Wallaroo (Yorke Peninsula). Our operations cover grain receival, bulk handling, storage, and transshipping, positioning us as leaders in the next generation of port development.

About the Role

Permanent full-time position reporting directly to the Master and working closely with the T-Ports Asset and Maintenance Planner and Marine Superintendent, the Chief Engineer is accountable for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the vessel’s main, auxiliary and cargo-handling machinery. The role also involves identifying opportunities for improvement while leading, guiding and supporting the engineering team of the MV Lucky Eyre. This role is critical in ensuring the vessel always remains fully operational and compliant.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee safe and reliable use of all vessel equipment
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance using CMMS (MEX)
  • Maintain engine room watchkeeping duties
  • Ensure all technical equipment is fully operational
  • Support all transfer operations (bunkers, sewage, potable water, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, registers, and records
  • Manage onboard stock of essential spares and consumables
  • Assist the Master and Maintenance Manager with operational requirements
  • Apply technical knowledge and problem-solving skills across a wide range of challenges

About You

We’re looking for a proactive professional with a hands-on approach and a strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll thrive in a role that blends preventative maintenance with rapid problem-solving, supported by excellent communication and organisational skills.

Essential requirements:

  • Engineer Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency, Engineer Class 3 (NC) Certificate of Competency with a trade qualification.
  • Certificate of Safety Training required for an Engineer Class 3 (NC)
  • Valid AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness
  • Australian working rights
  • Experience using onboard planned maintenance systems
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • Restricted Electrical License
  • Trade qualification
  • Prior experience in transshipping or bulk handling

Excellent Salary $ 221,619.08 P/A

  • Full employment conditions will be in accordance with the T-Ports Lucky Eyre Enterprise Agreement.
