Environmental Health Officer - Onsite Sewage Management

Join our Building and Environmental Health Unit in a permanent full-time role, providing an outstanding opportunity to contribute to our Environmental Health Team.

As a valued member of our team, you will work closely with the Program Leader to deliver key projects and programs, with a specific focus on emerging environmental and public health issues and in particular support the Onsite Sewage Management Systems program. Your expertise will be instrumental in providing expert advice on environmental health matters to community residents, developers, Government and Non-Government agencies, as well as Council staff. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in executing the core regulatory functions of Council's Environmental Health section, ensuring that our operations align with the highest standards and regulations.

About the role:

  • analyse and assess development applications against various environmental and public health legislation, standards, and guidelines, in particular installation of Onsite Sewage Management Systems
  • receive, record and investigate complaints and reports of issues that may breach environmental or public health legislation or Council policies
  • support the Onsite Sewage Management Team by providing advice and assistance with site inspection and reporting.

We are seeking:

  • degree level qualifications in environmental health, environmental science engineering or a related field
  • sound knowledge in environmental and public health matters
  • sound knowledge of environmental and public health legislation in a local government environment

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Essential:

  • Outline your degree level qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent where specialist knowledge is required or extensive experience in a related field or similar role. 
  • Describe your knowledge in environmental and public health matters, in particular such as: on-site sewage management, plumbing and drainage, and complaints investigations.
  • Provide specific examples of inspections you have conducted in order to ensure compliance with standards or regulations.
