Pump Fitters Assistant

The Water and Wastewater - Operations Unit is seeking a Pump Fitters Assistant to become part of a high functioning team. You will be passionate about providing secure, reliable, affordable, sustainable and high-quality drinking water supply and wastewater services to our community and protection of the environment. 

As part of our Water & Wastewater Operations team, you will undertake the installation, maintenance repair and upgrade of water supply and sewerage facilities, pumping equipment, fixed plant and mechanical equipment. These are essential services, and the community expects a high level of reliability and environmental protection. 

The position may be required to work on the pump stations outside of normal working hours during infrequent times of emergency.

We are seeking: 

  • knowledge of a broad range of mechanical equipment and processes found in today's sophisticated water and sewerage treatment and transport facilities
  • the ability to work in confined spaces such as sewer manholes and pump station wells
  • knowledge of Tweed Shire water and sewer reticulation network or similar (desirable)
  • knowledge of workplace safety procedures

This position is based in Chinderah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.

Essential:

  • A level of literacy and numeracy competence to ensure reading of job instructions, maintenance of records and reports.
  • General knowledge of mechanical or pump maintenance and repairs.
  • An understanding of workplace safety procedures, particularly in confined spaces, working over open voids and working at heights.
  • Ability to work in Confined Spaces, unhygienic and potential high-risk environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a group of two or team environment.
  • General knowledge Water Supply and Sewerage Systems and an understanding of why this is an important service to the community and environment.
  • Current Vehicle Licence – Car
  • Ability to operate and maintain hand and power tools.

Desirable:

  • Current Vehicle Licence – Medium Rigid
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
  • Hold a current Confined Spaces Entry Certificate.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate.
  • Hold a current Dogman Certificate.
  • Experience in mechanical or pump maintenance and repairs.
