Council is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Civil Engineer to join its Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Planning team.

About the Role:

As the Engineer - Networks you will provide specialist input to the development of water and sewerage growth related infrastructure investment programs. Supporting the Engineer – Planning and Systems this position will undertake a range of hydraulic investigations, developing strategies and actions to accommodate current and future network demands.

This position will contribute advice to internal service providers on development-related matters regarding water supply and sewerage capacity. It will also provide advice on operational matters regarding the resolution of network pressure and flow issues through the use of hydraulic models and the interpretation of test results and telemetry data.

A key function of this role will be the technical management of computer hydraulic models. The position will develop, maintain and operate water distribution and sewerage models to facilitate network investigations.

We are seeking:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) eligible for professional engineer membership of IE Aust.
  • Competence in computer hydraulic modelling of water distribution and sewerage networks, including model build, calibration and application.
  • Developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including proven ability to produce technical reports, liaise with key stakeholders and give presentations.
  • Civil engineering experience, particularly relating to water supply and sewerage networks, including design, construction, operation and maintenance activities.
  • Well-developed research, analysis, creative problem solving and program implementation skills.
  • Understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), their use in an infrastructure engineering environment and in a hydraulic modelling context.

Essential:

  • Do you hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) eligible for professional engineer membership of IE Aust?
  • Current Vehicle Licence – Car.
  • Describe your sound level of competence/knowledge in: 

            a. Civil Engineering including design, construction, operation and maintenance activities
            b. Contract and/or project management and the ability to manage multidiscipline engineering projects
            c. Local government engineering infrastructure, in particular water supply and sewerage conveyancing and reticulation systems
            d. Infrastructure asset management.

  • Describe your sound written and oral communication skills including technical report writing, business letters, memos, liaison, and conflict resolution.
  • Describe your well-developed research, analysis, creative problem solving and program implementation ability and skills.
  • Describe your intermediate competence in the use of computer hydraulic modelling packages such as InfoWater Pro, InfoSWMM, InfoWorks ICM, InfoWorks WS Pro or similar and spreadsheets to produce mathematical models.
  • Describe your understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and their use in an infrastructure engineering environment including the preparation of maps, diagrams and figures.

Desirable:

  • Describe your experience in preparing budgets for and implementing works programs.
  • Describe your experience in interaction with the development industry on engineering issues.
