Tweed Shire Council is on the lookout for a dependable and safety-conscious Plant Operator to join our team. This is a great opportunity to take on a hands-on role where you’ll be out and about across the Shire—transporting staff, equipment and materials, operating plant for linemarking and signage works and keeping machinery in top shape.
About the role:
- Responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of plant and associated equipment.
- Must have a solid knowledge of the Tweed Shire road network and be able to work unsupervised.
- Communicate effectively with Supervisors and provide necessary information as required.
- Work cooperatively with other work gangs and positions to complete tasks as directed by the Supervisor.
- Operate plant safely and efficiently, following Council’s safety procedures and State Licence Regulations.
- Perform non-driving duties with the Linemarking/Signage Gang when the plant is idle or under repair.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Supervisor within the scope of the role.

We are seeking:
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills to read instructions, complete records, and communicate effectively.
- Current WorkCover competency certificates for relevant plant and machinery.
- Valid driver’s and Medium Rigid licence.
- Proven experience operating, maintaining and cleaning plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Exhibit the ability to collaborate effectively, support colleagues, and contribute to a positive work environment.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
