About the Apprenticeship:
Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer an Apprenticeship with our Destination Communication and Customer Experience team. As an apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Prepress Graphic Design Production.
As an Apprentice Graphic Designer, you will assist in maintaining quality design and content creation advice across all of Council’s publications in print and digital environments while working within established brands and style guides. This is a fantastic opportunity to start your career as a Graphic Designer.
In order to meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship, successful completion of on-the-job training and studies is required.
What you'll do:
- Assist in the delivery of high-quality graphic design, multimedia content and publishing services to meet Council’s day-to-day visual communication needs across digital and print channels.
- Contribute to the creation of engaging visual content - including major corporate documents, newsletters and marketing collateral that informs, educates and connects with the Tweed community and Council staff.
- Develop understanding of Council’s brand identity including the use of style guides, templates and accessible design practices.
- Assist with creative client services and design support to internal stakeholders, primarily within the Destination, Communication and Customer Experience unit.
- Learn and apply digital asset management and prioritise workflow in a deadline-driven environment, ensuring timely delivery of visual communications and assisting team members during peak periods.
- Receive mentorship from the Destination Communication and Customer Experience team to help you succeed.

We’re looking for someone who’s curious, capable and eager to dive in. If that sounds like you, you’re already off to a great start.
What we’re looking for:
- A genuine interest for graphic design and a strong desire to build a long-term career in the industry
- Motivation and commitment to completing a Certificate qualification while gaining hands-on experience through on-the-job training in a supportive team environment
- Successful completion of Year 12, with demonstrated skills in Design and Technology, Visual Arts, or a related subject
- Basic computer literacy, with familiarity in Microsoft Office, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (preferred)
- A collaborative team player with strong communication skills
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and grow

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
