About the role:

  • Lead the assessment of subdivision and complex development applications, ensuring engineering conditions are tailored to each proposal.
  • Approve and issue Part 6 certificates, including Subdivision Works Certificates and Compliance Certificates, in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Conduct inspections and authorise the acceptance of newly constructed public infrastructure across various development types.
  • Oversee the release of Subdivision Certificates, ensuring full compliance with consent conditions and infrastructure standards.
  • Manage large-scale development projects involving multidisciplinary engineering practices and legal, planning, and construction elements.
  • Exercise full delegated authority over public infrastructure approvals valued at over $60 million annually, influencing development quality across the Shire.
  • Operate within a complex legislative and professional framework, requiring extensive engineering expertise and strong time management in a high-demand environment

We are seeking:

  • A qualified Civil Engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering and eligibility for NER and Corporate Membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Demonstrated expertise in engineering assessment of major and complex subdivisions and development applications.
  • Strong technical knowledge in civil engineering design, including roads, stormwater drainage, water supply, and sewer systems.
  • Proven ability to inspect and approve construction of public infrastructure such as roads, drainage, sewer, water reticulation, and pollution control devices.
  • Sound understanding of sedimentation, erosion control, and stormwater pollution management in land development.
  • High-level communication skills for resolving conflicts with developers, consultants, and community stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience (ideally 10+ years post-graduation) in civil construction or local government engineering roles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including the EP&A Act, WHS Act, and principles of ecologically sustainable development.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
