About the role:

  • Partner with Managers, Supervisors, and operational teams to implement and continuously improve Council’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance safety performance, lead incident investigations, and deliver targeted health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Use your strong communication, consultation, and negotiation skills to influence safe practices and foster a positive safety culture across diverse operational environments.
  • Provide flexible, detail-oriented support in a fast-paced setting, assisting team members during periods of high demand and contributing to client service delivery across the Unit.
  • Lead by example, modelling safe behaviours and promoting a workplace culture that prioritises the health and wellbeing of workers and the community.

We are seeking:

  • Demonstrated practical WHS experience in high-risk and operational environments, with a hands-on approach to safety management.
  • Extensive knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and standards, with the ability to apply them effectively in diverse workplace settings.
  • Proven capability in leading and managing complex WHS investigations and resolving safety-related matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve timely and beneficial outcomes in problem-solving scenarios.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team, managing competing priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Tweed Heads, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
