With a strong focus on technical leadership, this senior role will lead the planning and design of complex new infrastructure projects, resolve high-level engineering challenges and provide expert guidance to shape Council’s approach to safe and sustainable water and wastewater services.
About the role:
- Serve as Council’s principal specialist in hydraulic, water supply and sewerage conveyancing, providing authoritative guidance and resolving complex technical issues independently.
- Lead and coordinate internal teams and external consultants through the planning, approvals, and design phases of new water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Act as the primary reference point for clients on Council policy, best practice standards and technical problem-solving in water and wastewater design.
- Deliver expert advice across a range of stakeholders and represent Council as an expert witness in the Land and Environment Court.
- Report to the Senior Engineer Capital Works while exercising a high level of autonomy and professional judgment in project delivery and technical leadership.

We are seeking:
- A qualified Civil Engineer with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and demonstrated expertise in water and sewerage design within a local government context.
- Proven leadership skills, with experience managing technical staff and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of water and sewerage systems, including treatment plant processes, operations and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of relevant NSW water and sewerage legislation, regulations and infrastructure planning requirements.
- Proficiency in engineering software, including AutoCAD and hydraulic modelling tools, along with sound budgeting and cost estimation capabilities.
- Current vehicle licence - car.

This position is based in Tweed Heads and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
