Senior Engineer Development

Play a key role in shaping the future of Tweed’s water and wastewater infrastructure - ensure development aligns with Council’s strategic objectives while representing the asset owner in planning, approvals and regulatory matters. 

About the role:

  • Lead the Development section of the Water and Wastewater Unit, providing expert engineering advice and policy direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent Council’s Water and Wastewater services in development-related matters, including planning, assessment and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage the assessment and approval of development applications under the Water Management Act and Local Government Act, including issuing relevant certificates and conditions.
  • Oversee complex subdivision projects, coordinating multidisciplinary assessments across engineering, planning, legal and construction domains.
  • Contribute to policy development, process improvement and strategic planning while representing Council in legal proceedings and acting for the Unit Manager when required.

We are seeking:

  • A qualified Civil Engineer, eligible for NPER and Corporate Membership with Engineers Australia.
  • Extensive expertise in water supply and wastewater (sewerage) design, with strong knowledge of relevant NSW legislation and planning frameworks.
  • Proven experience in engineering assessment and approval of land subdivisions and developments involving public water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict and prepare high-quality written reports and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated leadership, with experience managing and developing staff in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Current vehicle licence - car.

This position is based in Tweed Heads and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
