About the role:
- Provide technical project support within the Sustainability and Environment Unit, conservation and waterways programs.
- Assist with implementing and managing private land conservation projects, including preparing, seeking and administering external grants to support program delivery.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with landholders, community groups, government agencies and NGOs, and engage community members to increase awareness and participation in private land conservation initiatives.
- Supervise on‑ground staff, contractors and volunteers as required, and represent Council at relevant community events and activities.
- Prepare and review high‑quality written materials such as technical reports and media releases and apply knowledge of legislation relevant to private land conservation.

We are seeking:
- A qualification in environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and experience in natural resource management.
- Sound native plant and weed identification skills and working knowledge of local vegetation types and best practice management/restoration techniques.
- Proven ability to engage with and support private landholders and to deliver land and habitat management advice.
- Proven ability to manage natural resource management projects, including engaging and supervising bush regenerators and other contractors, managing associated budgets and reporting.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and their role in achieving positive environmental outcomes.
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to represent council in public forums.
- Competence in using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, GIS and other data management systems.
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
